Facts about Pandas

Where do the live? Pandas live in the "bamboo forests" of "western China"

What are Pandas like? They are over "4 feet" tall, they weigh around "220-330 pounds" and they are covered in black and white fur. They can eat up to "26-84 pounds" of bamboo everyday! They also climb trees like other bears.

BUT ...
Did you know there are only around "1,600" Pandas left "in the wild"?

Why I want to protect Pandas?
I think Panda bears are beautiful animals and I always stop to look at these awesome animals when I go to the zoo. But, when I go to the zoo it makes me sad to think that Pandas cannot live in their homes in the wild because of what we humans are doing. Instead of caring for these animals and the forests they live in, we are destroying their homes and their food by cutting down trees and building on the land. Another reason why they are becoming extinct is because people are hunting them "for their fur". Let's make sure Pandas and their homes are here to stay by raising awareness, donating money, and researching what we can do to help.

How can you help?

The WWF has many different ways you can help protect Pandas. Maybe for Christmas or your birthday, you can ask your parents to give you a gift that is environmentally and animal friendly. Instead of wanting more material goods, why don't we make sure we keep what we already have. We don't want our Pandas to go extinct!

My favourite idea is adopting a Giant Panda for $40.00! The WWF will send you a little stuffed animal mini of your new friend, an "adoption certificate" and more "information" on Pandas for you to read!
